Music Students Compete At All-State In Cobb County…This past Saturday, two of our Middle school students Hannah Center and Kaylee Cowert from our Music program at GBCS attended the All-State Instrument District Audition at Dodgen Middle School in Cobb County. Both students were asked to memorize specific scales and music selections according to their instruments and then perform them in front of a six judge panel. They were judged on tonal quality, technique, rhythmic accuracy, dynamics, interpretation, and musical articulation. Mrs. Froelke, one of our music faculty has been preparing Hannah and Kaylee for the past couple of months. Mrs. Froelke has been instructing students in music for several years at GBCS.
Hannah Center has been playing trumpet for three years and continues to grow in her abilities. Kaylee Cowert has been playing flute for 3 years as well and is performing a solo in our Christmas Fine Arts program entitled, “Where Are You Christmas” Tuesday December 15, at 7:00PM.
National Honor Society Sponsored Christmas Food Drive…It’s the Christmas season when Christ was born to die and rise again to offer us the greatest gift of salvation. We want to again follow His example and give as a school this year. Our National Honor Society student representatives are organizing the collection of a week’s worth of food, including food for a Christmas dinner, for at least ten families. Last year GBCS, through your kindness, was a blessing to many families that were deeply touched by your giving. We want to do whatever we can to make this holiday season an enjoyable one for some families that otherwise would not experience the same material benefits that many of us have. We want everyone to bring in canned goods, non-perishables, and non-refrigerated items so that we can fill at least ten large containers of food, including food for a Christmas dinner.
After we collect the food, we will package everything and take the first part of the day on Friday, December 18th, to give it away. The school will load up the buses with students and the food. Each bus will travel to a different location. When the buses arrive at the location, students will unload, do some caroling, and present the food items to the family. We want our school to be able to make this a memorable Christmas for at least ten families. We want our students to learn about the pleasure that comes from being a servant to others as Christ was to us. Grace Baptist Christian School does not want students and school parents to give out of compulsion but rather out of a desire to give to others a small part of the blessings that God has bestowed upon each of us. Please remember that if the food has been sitting in your pantry for two years and you do not want it, then someone less fortunate will not want it either. Please donate food that you and your family would like to eat.
Thanksgiving Feast Served to over 600 Students and Parents… With the Thanksgiving Holiday season right around the corner, the question that seems to be at the tip of everyone's tongues is “for what are you thankful?” GBCS is thankful for the opportunity to educate and minister with our school families; and to celebrate that parent-school partnership, over 600 students and parents enjoyed a meal together served by our school chef, Von Jenkins.
Our Fine Arts Director, Doug Center, asked the third grade during the morning Christmas program rehearsal for what they were most thankful. He was amazed at some of the answers. The first response was for parents. Another was for life and air to breathe. Another student said they were thankful for God! Not a single person mentioned anything about the latest clothes or toys. On behalf of the entire administration and faculty, we would like to express to our School Families to have a wonderful, safe, and Happy Thanksgiving!
Can you Believe it?...Football State Championship!

Last Friday our Grace Baptist Eagles played the Trinity Lions in the second round of the playoffs. In the previous game in the regular season against the Lions, it did not go so well for our Eagles, but they came back with something else for the Lions. The entire game was close. After the difficulties with the lights were resolved, the Eagles came out with a 38 to 31 victory over the Lions after an interception with only seconds remaining in the game. Please join us at the game at Jesse Davis Park at 6593 Brown Street in Douglasville. The game begins at 7:30pm this Friday, November 13, 2009. Ticket prices are $7.00 for adults and $5.00 for students. Children 8 and under are free. Please come support the Grace Baptist Eagles as they take the field Friday night for the state championship!
Third Grade Visits
the Georgia Aquarium
Mrs. Pybus and Mrs. Fauscett took the 3rd grade
classes to the Georgia Aquarium last Friday for an entire day of excitement and
adventure. They started the trip with a
behind-the-scene tour above the water to learn how the aquarium feeds and cares
for the many animals. Following the
tour, they were splashed with water, bubbles, and confetti as they watched cartoon
fish leap out at them while they watched a 4-D movie about Deepo the fish explaining
the importance of the ocean and its creatures.
After working up an appetite from these adventures, the class enjoyed a
lunch break that helped them refuel for their time to tour the rest of the
aquarium. They learned about penguins, whale
sharks, electric eels, sea turtles, sea otters, and many other of God’s
creatures. One of the highlights was the
touch pools filled with animals such as horseshoe crabs, sea stars, stingrays,
sharks, and live corals. The classes
truly had a day of fun and learning!
A Night
of Football, Flags, and Flowers This year’s homecoming celebration included the honoring of our “Royal” student representatives from Preschool through 12th grade. Pedestals, flowers, and flags decorated the football field at Post Road Park and made the evening very photographic. It was also the first appearance of our Eagles pep band as well. They played loud and strong through the night. Even when our team was down, they still inspired the crowd with their pep band music. From Preschool to 12th grade the class representatives were dressed to kill and stood with their partners and parents. It was a great evening, and we want to thank our PTP in making our Homecoming Celebration so special.
